Hello!!! I have found a song, in which I don't understend some words' meaning: "That's amore". Could you explain me what does "like a gay tarantella" mean, please? Thanks a lot, Davide P.S. Happy Easter to everyone!!!
Dear Teacher, just two days ago I told with some friends about the problem of the second language: we remembered that our parents, during their youth, had studied French at school. During the 70's, in fact, in Europe people thought French could become the language of the European Community.
But French is a language derived from the latin, as the Italian, so it's very hard to learn. English, instead, is very simple and it's the language spoken in one of the most important country in the world: the USA.
Of course, the English studied at school, on the books, is quite different from the language spoken by people in some countries. In addition, the American idiom is different from the English one for some characteristics.
But, in spite of this, today English is spoken all over the world and we considered it necessary to move through the countries: it's our instrument to survive wherever we go! It's the only means to communicate with other people, especially for our job: this is the reason we have to study english at university and we have to demostrate we're able to speak it, to obtain the graduate.
These observations explains why we need to learn a second language, while Americans don't: they don't need a second language to obtain a job, to move to other countries, to communicate with people from other continents! They can learn a second language only as a whim, to satisfy a curiosity or a passion, or to know and understand another culture...
I think they are too lucky, from this point of view, but I can't say they're wrong: the changes during the history made the English became the first language spoken in the world and now we are forced to adapt.
I have to face these facts and now, with patience, I try to learn and practice my english :) Maria Laura
Good Afternoon, Teacher, I want to tell you about an experience I had last monday: I was travelling by train and I found out the seat close to mine was occupied by an australian girl.
I spent one hour ad a half talking with her: she was in Italy because of her sister marriage and she was taking advantage of that journey to have a tour through the main cities of hour Country.
We talked for a long time about what she liked in Italy and she said me she was surprised about the variety of trees: in Australia, she said, there are only some sporadic trees on the expanse of the fields!
We talked also about Australia: I asked her how was her city, Brisbane, if she had ever visited all the continent, wath was the site she would suggest me to visit...
It was certainly a good training for me and she said me that she thinks I speak a good English :)
Now I'm sure conversation is the best means to practice really a second language!

Dear Davide,
The original meaning of 'gay' is happy, lighthearted, and fun. So they are describing that type of dance.
Happy Easter to you, too!
