Assignment 3
You may have already predicted this, but this time, you have to go to the Listening Practice link, choose a topic that sounds interesting to you, and do a listening exercise! Of course, you must write to me and report what you have done. I am also interested in hearing whether you think it has been useful or not. Let me know!

Good morning Teacher!!
Last evening I went to the Listening Practice Link and I have choosed a topic about Lecture on Biology.Listening ,I understood that this topic spiks of branches of the science of biology. Biologists can specialize in and study many different things. But when we talk about biology, we usually think about the different levels of organization. We begin at the very lowest, or molecular level, which includes biochemistry and molecular genetics. We then proceed to the cellular level, but not one related to your phone! No, the cellular level refers to the cell as a component of an organism. A developmental biologist studies how that organism grows and changes over time.
I think that this exercise is more difficult because the dialogue is very quicky but is very nice and can improve my English.
Thank You
See you later
Dear teacher I have listened the conversation about the "exam results" in the Listening Practice Link. The conversation was between two students, a boy and a girl, about an exam. These two students lived in Los Anfeles (California) and they had to do a test of English and the English is a foreign language for them. About the last test, the boy got a 78, instead the girl got lucky because she got a 91. So they decided to study together for the next exam
and they supposed the test to be a mix of short answer, but the girl said that her problem is when the test is timed because she can't organize her ideas.
I liked this conversation, it has been not very quick and so it has also improved my pronunciation!
Thank you!Bye!
Good morning Teacher!!
I like reading Psychology books, so I have listened the conversation about the “Cognitive Psychology Lecture” in the Listening Practice Link. This topic spiks about a particular theorie, the mental processes that drive behaviour. In 1967 Ulric Neisser, a psychologist published a book called Cognitive Psychology. He talked about our minds—our cognition, our thinking. Cognitive psychologists don’t believe that introspection is a valid method of scientific study, so this thought is different from other schools of thought, but it believe that phenomenon can be observed, hypotheses can be formed about them . Besides, cognitive science differs from previous psychological approaches becouse it acknowledges the existence of internal mental states such as beliefs, desires, and motivations.
I think that this exercise is difficult becouse the dialogue is quicky, but the speaker has a good pronunciation so I can improve my English.
Thank You
See you later
Hi teacher!
I went to the Listening Practive Link and i have choosed and listened the conversation about "Campus Safety". Listening this conversation i understood that Campus Safety is one of the most important and serious problem of the American University bacause there are robberies or even sexual assaults and rape every day. For this reasons students do not walk alone on campus ,must have an escort and walk in well-lighted areas on pedestrian paths. Students can also sign-up to the self-defense classes offered by the Public Safety office. Another problem is theft and burglary.
This conversation was very interesting for me because the some problems there are in Italian University too. Only one problem: the conversation is very quick but can improve my English pronunciation!
Bye Bye!
Hi teacher!
I went to the Listening Pratice link and I have chosed a tobic about Atmospheric Science - El Niño, a weather phenomena that affects the South American coast, usually associated with atmospheric changes.
It take the name from Spanish, that means “the Christ child”.
We classify an occurrence as El Niño when the water temperature is greater than 0.5°C across the central tropical region of the Pacific Ocean for a period longer than five months.
Generally we see El Niños every three to five years, although it may be as long as seven years between occurrences, but it is possible see these patterns in late December.
I think that this exercise is more difficult because the dialogue is very quicky but the speaker has a good pronunciation so I can improve my English.
Bye Bye
Good evening teacher,
This afternoon I have choosen the task "Running into someone". The dialogue talked about a woman, called Anna, that ran into man, Nick. At the end, they understood that they had already met before that time and Anna asked Nick to have a cup of coffee.
see you soon
Hi Teacher,
I went to the Listening Practice link and I chose the topic "University Bookstore".
I found out it's very interesting, I was very surprised!
The listening file I chose lasts more than 20 minutes, but I didn't get bored until the end: in the first part, the two characters of the action read the dialogue slowly (with that exagerate expression you said us to use!), then a theacher explain to the listener a lot of particulars about the scene: he gave me some informations about the habits of the american students and I was surprised because I was able to understand almost all the expressions he was using!
At the end the two characters read again the dialogue, but faster than the first time, and I could note this time I was able to follow them very easly :)
So, I think I'll use the Listening Practice link frequently during next months!
Goodbye,
ML

dear teacher,
In the page of listening exercises I've found a dialogue between two students that are going to rent an appartment togheter, they want to find two rommates more to "split the costs".
this is a common problem for us (students) that live far from the university; last year happened to me too.

Good moorning Teacher.
This Listening Practice link is very very useful, I’m learning much from it (I think I'll use often it to practice my English listening) like these: in USA university has a medical health centre where students can be visited by a doctor or a nurse when they feel not too good or feel sick. Indeed Paul (the male dialogue’s actor) get a cheekup, some medical analysis like temperature and blood pressure.
The explanations are very helpful to understand the dialogue, in fact I didn’t know what does mean “figured” in that contest, now I can use this expression when I thought about a decision.
Thanks for this site! :)
